Jaigarh Fort is older than
Amber Fort and is situated on a higher hill. Also
known as the fort of victory, Ja igarh Fort is
famous for its gun factory and there lies “Jai
Bana” one of the biggest cannon on wheels which
was made in this factory. The rugged fort, built
in 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh, was the royal
treasury for several years. The fort is perched
on a cliff and is surrounded by huge battlements
with inside walkways offering stunning views on
all sides. Another unique feature of the fort is
the intricate water supply and storage system. The
top of the hill has a channel built for collecting
rain water. With slope running towards fort, most
of the rain water was directed to tanks inside the
fort. The channel had deep chambers en route and
they served as filter plants. The system still is
considered a marvel of planning. The fort came
into national news when during period of emergency
it was thoroughly searched and the tanks were
emptied because according to rumors great
looted
wealth was stored here. Tourist can also visit the
beautiful museum inside which has an awesome
collection of Rajput artifacts and weaponry.
Jaigarh Fort can be reached either by road leading
to Nahargarh Fort or on foot from Amber Fort. The
Jaigarh Fort is located at a distance of around
11kilometer form Jaipur amidst hill ranges. Which
bear a green cover at least after summers. Jaigarh
Fort
is on top of the list for any visitor coming to
Jaipur.
