Buoyed by the global success of
the Palace on Wheels, Rajasthan Tourism
Development Corporation and Indian Railways have
joined hands to launch a luxury tourist train on
meter
gauge
- Heritage on Wheels. The train will traverse
through the unexplored regions of
Bikaner and
Shekhawati, famous repositories of the Heritage of
Rajasthan.
Shekhawati region is popularly known as 'open-air
art gallery of Rajasthan' because of a large
concentration of high quality frescoes that dot
the place. This semi-arid region was nothing but a
barren landscape in earlier times but became a
centre of art and architecture from 1750 onwards.
The region experienced its golden period from 1750
to 1930 and today it is one of the major tourist
attractions of Rajasthan.
Backed by the global success of the Palace on
Wheels, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation
and Indian Railways in their first ever endeavor
take you on board The Heritage on Wheels, a luxury
tourist train on meter gauge enroute to the
unexplored regions of Bikaner and Shekhawati,
famous beholders of the Heritage of Rajasthan.
No other region in India, or perhaps, even in the
world, has such a large concentration of high
quality frescoes as the region of Shekhawati. In
the beginning, this semi-arid region had only its
blank monochromatic palette to offer. No school of
painting thrived till history and circumstances
took up this colorless page and made it blossom
with art for almost two centuries - from 1750 to
1930. Today, this region is commonly called this
'open-air art gallery of Rajasthan'.
